MTV EMAs 2014 Nominations: Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande & More

The nominations are in for the MTV Europe Music Awards 2014, and most of the usual suspects are up for multiple nods.

Leading by the numbers is Katy Perry, with seven nominations, including Best U.S. Act, Best Female and Best Song.

Hot on her heels is Ariana Grande, with six nominations ranging from Best Female, Best New Artist, Best Pop and Biggest fans.

5 Seconds Of Summer and Pharrell Williams have five nods each, while One Direction, Kiesza and Sam Smith, Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea and Eminem have four nominations.

Justin Bieber enters the game with three nominations. The 20-year-old superstar is nominated for Best Male, and contends against strong field consisting of Brit troubadour Ed Sheeran, Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams.

The Canadian singer is also nominated, aptly, for Best Canadian Act. Other contenders in that specialized category are Drake, Arcade Fire, Avril Lavigne and Kiesza. Justin got another nomination in the Biggest Fans category.

In this field, which will undoubtedly be hotly contested, the “Believe” singer’s Beliebers go up against One Direction’s Directioners fans, 5 Seconds of Sumnmer, Ariana Grande’s Arianators and Nicki Minaj fans.

The best UK and Ireland category will be fought between Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, One Direction, Calvin Harris, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran.

Unlike some award events which go on interminably, the MTV Europe Music Awards (EMAs) is actually a tight affair.

One category that always gets everyone voting is the Best Song category. This year, Perry’s “Dark Horse” will face-off against Grande’s “Problem” which cameos the rapper Iggy Azalea, Pharrell’s super hit “Happy,” Smith’s “Stay With Me”, and Eminem’s “The Monster” featuring Rihanna.

The MTV European Music Awards 2014 throws down at the SSE The Hydro in Glasgow on Sunday, November 9.

For U.S. fans there will be EMA U.S. pre-show telecast live from Miami beginning at 7 pm on November 9.

For those music fans who wish to vote, categories are already open and close November 8.
