70-Pound Girl Pinned Down By 2 Cops: Student Taken Down By Police Officers Over Cell Phone [Video]

A Houston high school girl was pinned down by two cops so they could get a hold of her cell phone. As The Daily Caller reports, the sophomore student, Ixel Perez, was tackled by two officers on Tuesday at Sam Houston High School in Texas. Apparently, the teen didn’t want to give up her cell phone to the assistant principal. The teacher in her reading class called her out for using her cell phone and things escalated from there.

According to Perez’s brother, she weighs just 70 pounds.

CBS affiliate KHOU has a video of the incident in which cops take down the girl, and one of the men is seen ramming his knee into the side of the girl’s head.

Cell phone use by students is prohibited at Sam Houston High, and those caught using them are required to hand them over to school officials. At the end of the day, they must pay a fine to have them returned.

When the reading teacher notices Perez using her cell phone, she instructs the girl to leave class and go into the hallway. At that point, the assistant principal shows up and tells the sophomore to hand over her phone. Perez refuses, saying her mother has medical problems and must keep the phone at her side. The 15-year-old walks away and the assistant principal phones police.

Three officers from the Houston Independent School District’s police arrive, with two of them pinning down the 70-pound girl. The third officer watched over the incident.

“Both of the cops just tackled her down to the floor,” says student Gustavo Lucio.

The student further explained, “They put her knee on her head and after that they just arrested her, took her phone. The cop just said you can’t use your phone and after that, no words no nothing, just actions, grabbed her, threw her down.”

Perez shares how the incident humiliated her. She speaks with evident distress.

“It was embarrassing,” Perez says. “I just didn’t want to give up my phone. She asked me for the phone and I didn’t want to give it to her, because I was scared. I ended up walking down the stairs trying to get away.”

Perez continues that she was on the phone with her mother when police took her down.

“One grabbed my hand. I didn’t want to let go of my phone because I was on the phone with mom.”

Chris Cardenas, Perez’s brother, tells KHOU how unnecessary it was for his sister to be pinned down by two police officers.

“We all know it was wrong. It doesn’t take three cops to take down one teenage girl.”

The school district released a statement regarding the controversial way of handling the cell phone issue.

“The safety of our students at Sam Houston High School and of all our schools is always our absolute top priority. The HISD police department and the school’s administration are continuing their investigations of what led to the detainment of a female student yesterday.”

The Perez family is pulling Ixel Perez out of Sam Houston High.

Was the high school overreacting by having two cops take down a 70-pound girl over a cell phone?
