It’s quite possible that Betsey Johnson is one of the coolest clothing designers alive today.
Betsey Johnson just may have outdone herself this year during her New York Fashion Week show, which marks the official launch of her Spring/Summer 2015 collection. Washington Square News reported directly on the event, offering the following glimpse into what sounds like Betsey Johnson’s most iconic show yet:
“When Betsey Johnson arrives at New York Fashion Week, she doesn’t just put on a runway show — she throws a party. For Spring/Summer 2015, Johnson celebrated marriage and equality with an ’80s-inflected bridal collection.” -Cicek Erel/Washington Square News
There was plenty of white lace, sheer fabrics, feathers, and bows, with just the right twist of edginess mixed with romance. Plenty of metallic elements and bright colors that are so indicative of Betsey Johnson’s fashion line made it to this collection. Betsey Johnson is perhaps best known for the whimsy of her designs, and the Spring/Summer 2015 collection certainly reflects her flair for designing flirty, eccentric pieces.
With runway coach J. Alexander and singer Christina Milian in attendance, Betsey had plenty of help getting the crowd into the party. The models she used were also unique, in the fact that several of them defied the stereotype of what makes a typical runway model. Johnson, who is 72, enlisted the help of housewives and drag queens, as well as transgender models to show off her ’80s inspired bridal collection.

News Day reports that Betsey ended her runway show by dancing down the runway with her new Dancing With The Stars partner Tony Dovolani to celebrate her new collection. On Johnson’s involvement in DWTS, the designer said the following:
“It’s the most amaaaaazing, exciting time of my life — well, next to the birth of my daughter and grandchildren.”
Other notable contestants who will be competing for the mirror ball trophy against Betsey during the 19th season of DWTS include soap opera stud Antonio Sabato Jr., Olympian Lolo Jones, and Tommy Chong of Cheech and Chong fame.
Of course, no Betsey Johnson show would be complete without her signature cartwheel into splits maneuver, proving that no matter what your physical age, girls just want to have fun.
