Emma Stone: Gwen Stacy Character Could Be Revived For ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 3’

Emma Stone saw her Gwen Stacy character meet an untimely end in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but some movie insiders believe there could still be a future for the character.

At the end of the recent Spiderman sequel, Stone’s character met a final and shocking ending, and she was killed off. The death makes way for Mary Jane Watson in the future Amazing Spider-Man installment, but some believe that Emma Stone could still find her way back into the movie.

In an editorial, ComicBookMovie.com noted that Gwen Stacy has already found life after death in the comic book storyline:

“Within the fictional universe, Gwen Stacy’s death has enormous repercussions. From day one we all knew that Gwen Stacy will die and be replaced by Mary Jane Watson in the Webb franchise. Well now Captain Stacy and Gwen Stacy have both died so you must be thinking that we will see Mary Jane in the next installment; well you’re wrong. Due to the successful response from Peter and Gwen’s relationship I believe that the writers will bring back Gwen Stacy. Wait what? Yes, there are many storylines in comics were we have seen Gwen Stacy return after her death; it’s comics after all.”

But if she does return to the Amazing Spider-Man series, Emma Stone may need to find time in an increasingly busy schedule. The star is set to make her Broadway debut in Cabaret. She will take over the role of the departing Michelle Williams, joining the cast in November and staying through February 1, 2015.

Emma Stone could also have another big project in the works. Recently, actor Bill Murray was talking about his dream cast for an all-female sequel to the Ghostbusters series; one that, in his mind, would include Stone.

“Melissa [McCarthy] would be a spectacular Ghostbuster,” Murray said of his co-star in St. Vincent, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival over the weekend. “And Kristen Wiig is so funny—God, she’s funny!”

“I like this girl Linda Cardellini a lot,” he continued. “And Emma Stone is funny. There are some funny girls out there.”

There is still no official word whether Emma Stone will return as Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 3, but with Marvel, you never know.
