After years of poor service and consumer complaints, one Missouri woman decided to take matters into her own hands. According to WDAF, Susan Perry Howard has witnessed a United States Postal Service worker deliver her mail and package with absolutely no regard for her personal property.
For years, Howard has complained about torn mail and damaged packages as a result of the mailman’s poor handling. She’s had certified mail that was never delivered and important packages dropped at the street in front of her home.
However, the local post office had done nothing to resolve the issues because she never had any proof. So after years of frustration, she decided to take the time to see exactly what the mailman was doing with her packages.
“I thought – I’m gonna see what he does with this book – and sure enough, that’s how the video happened,” she explained to the news outlet.
One day when Howard was expecting an expensive book to be delivered, she sat in her window waiting on the package to arrive. Needless to say, she was appalled by what she saw. Howard captured the mailman tossing her expensive book from the mail truck onto the ground near the street in front of her home. Although she was quite upset with what she saw, it was also a bit of relief because she finally had proof. Howard initially felt no one would believe her claims unless she had substantial evidence of the mailman’s actions.
“I thought – if I were to tell somebody this, they’re gonna look at me like, really? Come on, you’re exaggerating. No I’m not, that’s how my mail gets delivered,” she said. “He would put the mail in, and then shove the package in, which would just tear up all the mail.”
Since the complaints didn’t work, Howard took to social media out of frustration and posted the jaw-dropping video on Facebook. According to My Fox Orlando, the video garnered lots of attention from online viewers and postal service workers, which led to an formal apology from the mailman’s supervisor.
“He showed up at my front door, and literally his boss had seen the video on Facebook, and he said, ‘I apologize,'” she explained.
WDAF also obtained an official statement from the United States Postal Service in reference to the incident. Although the footage definitely speaks volumes, the employee’s behavior is currently being investigated. Here’s what the post office had to say.
“The Postal Service condemns, in the strongest possible sense, the actions of any employee who mishandles mail or packages. An investigation into the incident is underway and if this video is accurate, then the behavior on the part of the employee shown in the video is not only unacceptable to the Postal Service, it threatens to tarnish the reputation and high level of trust that the vast majority of our employees work so hard to uphold. We have reached out to the customer to apologize and want to assure the public that we take such incidents seriously and are taking all appropriate steps to address it and ensure it does not happen again.”
However, Howard isn’t concerned with the investigative part of the ordeal. She only wants one thing — her mail!
