Devon Still Cut From Bengals, Re-Signed To Practice Squad So He Could Pay For Daughter’s Cancer Treatments

NFL star Devon Still was cut from the Cincinnati Bengals after not performing, but the team hired him back for the sake of his daughter, Leah. According to Perez Hilton, the Bengals gave Still a spot on their practice squad so that he could earn a solid paycheck that would help pay for his young daughter’s cancer treatments.

Of course it wasn’t easy for Still to focus his attention on football because his daughter has been battling stage 4 pediatric cancer. However, being let go from the team was a heavy hit, but Still now believes that it was a blessing in disguise.

“I completely understand where the Bengals were coming from when they cut me because I couldn’t give football 100 percent right now. They could have washed their hands with me and said they didn’t care about what I was going through off the field. It’s like a blessing in disguise for me. We’re going to go to battle with cancer. She’s willing to put up a fight to beat it.”

Devon Still missed off-season practice to be with Leah, 4, who was just diagnosed in June. According to The Seattle Times, there is still a chance that Still will be back on the team in the future. For now, however, his focus is on his daughter as she fights for her life. It certainly hasn’t been an easy road, but Still’s daughter is so brave. The pictures that he shares of her are so sweet, and it’s clear that he has so much love for her — which is just what she needs during this difficult time in her life.

Even when Still can’t be with Leah (because he’s traveling with the team or working), he finds a way to talk to her. Recently he shared a sweet FaceTime photo, that was heartbreaking and heartwarming all at once.

“FaceTime before her stem cell harvest…it’s hard to hold back the tears knowing I’m too far away to be there when she wakes up from her procedure but I keep a smile on my face so that she will keep one on hers… I know Gods in our corner and he will watch over her.”

He has also shared these photos of himself and Leah over the past couple of months.

Everyone from the Bengals family and beyond is praying for Leah and hoping that she pulls through. Devon Still seems like such a great dad, and the two are so lucky to have each other.

The Bengals had quite an interesting pre-season. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, their backup quarterback Matt Scott puked two times before taking the field and throwing a touchdown pass. It seems clear that the Bengals team knows how to fight… It sounds like Leah takes after her dad and his team!
