Middle School Teacher Who Gave Student A Birthday Lap Dance Pleads Guilty To Felony

The Texas middle school teacher who give a full-contact lap dance in a classroom to a 15-year-old for his birthday has avoided jail time.

Felicia Smith, 42, pleaded guilty on Thursday to the felony of having an improper relationship with a student and was sentenced to three years of deferred adjudication, otherwise known as probation in most jurisdictions, KHOU Houston reports.

Smith told apparently told investigators that the other students in the room convinced her to celebrate the teen’s birthday by performing a lap dance in front of everyone in the room. At the end of the dance, the teacher allegedly hugged the student and said “I love you, baby. Happy Birthday.”

A cell phone video of the incident that occurred at the Stovall Middle School in the Houston area apparently exists, but the footage has not yet been released into the public domain.

The four-minute lap dance set to music apparently occurred in February, and Smith was arrested in April. Officials in the Aldine Independent School District removed her from the classroom at that time.

Perhaps giving a new definition to the term teacher’s pet or perhaps show and tell, the Houston Chronicle reported that “The teen told investigators his teacher placed a chair next to her desk and other students yelled for him to sit down in it. Music began playing and Smith began performing a ‘full contact lap dance,’ according to court records… Another student recorded video of the almost four-minute dance on Feb. 26 that started with the teacher sitting down in the student’s lap, moving back and forth and touching him all over his body. Toward the end of the dance, according to the documents, the boy said Smith got on her knees and placed her head between his legs…”

Added the Chronicle: “In a statement Smith gave to police, she admitted performing for the boy. She recalled circling him while he sat in the chair and losing her balance a few times, court records show.”

Felicia Smith no longer works at the school in question and seems unlikely to be returning to the classroom anytime soon.”While Smith remains licensed to teach English Language Arts and Reading in grades 4-8, Texas state records note that she is ‘currently under review; by the State Board for Educator Certification’s professional discipline unit,” according to The Smoking Gun.

You can probably guess what HLN’s Nancy Grace thought of the teacher-student birthday lap dance at the time of the arrest. If you’re still wondering, the video is embedded below:
