Hercules Film Flexes Muscles with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson

Hercules is famed for his grace as a gladiator and impressive accomplishments, including feats such as socking it to a hydra. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson may not have overcome a hydra (a scary serpent with nine heads), but he’s become known for his knock-out talents as well. What do you get when you combine the character of Hercules with the mighty manhood of Johnson in a film? A Herculean effort that includes generous helpings of hydra-like feats, reported the Muse on Sept. 4 in a review of Hercules.

The movie version of Hercules borrows from Steve Moore’s Radical Comics series while using the 12 labours from the original classics to provide Johnson with the opportunity to flex his muscles. Add a dash of mystery, a spoonful of suspense and a lion pelt costume, and what more could you ask?

“The Rock” apparently feels that you might ask for more opportunities to view his magnificent muscles – but he’s hungry for a different type of challenge. He confirmed that he will shift from playing action star Hercules to portraying villain Black Adam in the upcoming superhero film Shazam, reported ABC News on Sept. 3.

“‘Kneel before his feet or get crushed by his boot..’ Its a true honor for me to become BLACK ADAM,” Johnson posted proudly on Instagram. “#TheAntiHero #ComplexPsychology #DevilishCharm #DCComics”

In addition to his love for hash tags, Johnson admitted that he’s fond of sweet treats. In a Reddit Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), he responded to questions about his diet, as The Inquistr reported.

“Fav cheat meal food would be pizza (double dough), pancakes and peanut butter brownies. And for good measure I throw in a diet coke!” joked the uber-fit wrestler.

However, he admitted that Hercules was his most challenging role. Best response: “[s]ounds like The Rock was in a hard place.”

Fans also thanked Johnson for motivating them and inspiring them. They asked about his favorite workout music as well.

“Comments like this are always the best to read. Stay strong and know that every time we get our ass kicked, we get stronger and (hopefully wiser for it. Generally when I ‘clang and bang’ Im all about hip hop – Tech9, Jay Z, Tupac, Bun B (UGK), Eminem, Kendrick Lamar etc. Then every once in a while I put it on shuffle in hopes of the random ‘Eye of the Tiger’ to play. S***s on when that happens. #ClubberLangStyle,” he said.
