Watch the Minnesota Vikings vs. St. Louis Rams week one game live online via streaming video by following the link at the bottom of this preview article. The St. Louis Rams and Minnesota Vikings are both looking to put disappointing seasons behind them and get a fresh start for the 2014 season.
The Minnesota Vikings finished 2013 with a 5-10 record, edging out the perennially bad Detroit Lions for the bottom of the heap in the NFC North. Still, they are part of the division with arguably the most parity in the league and winning a game or two before divisional play gets into full swing could very well put them in a good position to contend for a playoff spot. The Rams, meanwhile, finished 7-9 last year for last place in the tough NFC West that produced the Superbowl champion Seattle Seahawks.
As this ESPN preview report points out, the Rams will be starting Shaun Hill at quarterback. The last time Shaun Hill took a snap as the starter was back in 2009 for the San Francisco 49ers… and five years is an eternity in athlete-years. To make matters trickier, the St. Louis Rams offensive line is shaky, at best. The Rams may have to depend on Shaun Hill for the duration of the season, as starting quarterback Sam Bradford had a season-ending ACL-injury.
As The Inquisitr previously reported, the dismal QB situation in St. Louis could even provide an opportunity for Tim Tebow to make a return to the NFL. After all, he has started NFL games more recently — not to mention, more successfully — than Shaun Hill. In a related report, there has been some talk that the St. Louis Rams could relocate — back to Los Angeles.
Without Sam Bradford, look for the Rams to try to run the ball as much as they can. As this report in Fanatix points out, running back Zac Story had a breakout rookie season and will likely be expected to shoulder much of the burden of the St. Louis offense again this season.
The Minnesota Vikings will also likely run the ball a lot in today’s St. Louis Rams vs. Minnesota Vikings game and throughout the season. Adrian Peterson will shoulder most of that load, as he has in recent years. Matt Cassel will be taking the snaps for Minnesota, but don’t look for that to last long if he doesn’t produce as the Vikings starter.
