Melissa Rivers Admits Her Mom Is On Life Support: Outlook Is Back To Grim

Melissa Rivers has released a new statement about her mother, this time confirming the internet rumors about Joan Rivers being on life support. According to Us Weekly, Melissa decided to let the world know the truth about her mother’s condition, as hard as that might be to accept.

“On behalf of my mother and our family, we are extremely grateful for all the love and support we’ve received. At this time, she does remain on life support. I know my mother would be overwhelmed by the continued outpouring of kindness, and I want to thank everyone for keeping us in their prayers.”

Melissa Rivers has been at Mount Sinai hospital with her mom since Thursday. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, Joan Rivers was rushed to the Manhattan hospital after going into cardiac arrest during a medical procedure at a nearby clinic. There were several rumors about Joan’s condition — about her being in a medically-induced coma or on life support — but no one really knew the truth until now.

An earlier report from E! News seemed to paint a much different picture. A source close to the family said that Joan’s condition was improving, and she was “on the road to recovery.” However, Melissa has confirmed that Joan is being kept alive by the use of machines.

Melissa Rivers will likely be faced with a very difficult decision in the coming days. If her mother does not show any signs of brain function, Melissa may need to decide whether or not she wants to keep her mom on life support or “pull the plug” as they say. Despite reports that Joan was being “woken up,” it sounds like she’s not going to regain consciousness any time soon. The heartbreaking news is a harsh reality check for anyone that was hanging on to the possibility that the rumors were false.

Joan Rivers, 81, has been prayed for by thousands of people since news of her health issue surfaced on Thursday morning. Melissa has a wonderful support system of family and friends to help her through this difficult time. Of course, there is always a chance that a miracle could change the outlook for Rivers, but for now, it’s important that she’s comfortable and not in any kind of pain or distress. Melissa is a strong woman, and she will get through this no matter what.
