Harry Styles Shows Some Love For Michael Sam: Will This Move Cause One Direction Rift?

Harry Styles recently showed his support for Michael Sam, the most famous St. Louis Ram. Sam hasn’t even made the team yet, but he’s getting more love than any other member of the squad.

According to The Washington Post, Harry Styles rocked a Michael Sam jersey while performing Wednesday night at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis. The One Direction singer looked almost as sweaty as an NFL star when he surprised the crowd with his sporty wardrobe change.

Sam caught wind of Styles’ statement-making attire, and he thanked the singer for his support.

Unsurprisingly, Directioners also freaked out about Harry Styles wearing Michael Sams’ jersey.

There’s a certain faction of One Direction fans who get really excited each time Harry shows his support for gay rights. This is because they’re convinced that Styles is secretly gay, and some of them even believe that he’s in a hush-hush relationship with band mate Louis Tomlinson. These fans have dubbed their made-up celebrity couple “Larry Stylinson.”

According to Sugarscape, Louis Tomlinson has angrily lashed out at the “Larry shippers” before. However, Harry Styles told NOW magazine that he doesn’t mind the gay rumors.

“I’m just not bothered. I just think so much gets written and so much gets said. If I sat and explained everything it’d be so long and tiring.”

Don’t be shocked if Harry Styles’ Michael Sam homage leads to the creation of a legion of Marry Stam shippers.

Harry Styles has shown his support for gay rights various times in the past. According to GLAAD, he filmed a special video wishing the London Lesbian & Gay Switchboard a happy 40th birthday, and he responded to a Westboro Baptist Church protest with a tweet letting the homophobic group know that he doesn’t agree with their views.

Michael Sam might need all the support that he can get as he tries to become the first openly gay player to play in a regular season NFL game. As The Inquisitr previously reported, Sam has already had to deal with ESPN reports about his showering habits, and there’s been a lot of talk about his sexuality being too much of a distraction for his team. However, Michael is confident that he’ll make the St. Louis Rams’ 53-man roster. The team has until Saturday at 4 pm ET to decide his fate.

Michael Sam might be thrilled to have Harry Styles’ support, but TMZ thinks that Harry’s stance on gay rights will cause a rift in One Direction. The site points to Liam Payne’s support for the Duck Dynasty clan’s traditional “family values” after Phil Robertson’s homophobic rant got the patriarch suspended from his family’s A&E series. However, Liam never actually came out and said that he’s anti-gay marriage or anti-gay rights, and he obviously didn’t have much of a problem with the previous times Harry Styles showed his support for the LGBT community.
