Happy Ending: Boston Marathon Bombing Survivor James Costello Marries Nurse Who Cared For Him

Boston Marathon bombing survivor James Costello has married the nurse who cared for him during his recovery, Krista D’Agostino, ABC News is reporting.

James and Kristina made it official in an outdoor wedding at Boston’s swanky Hyatt Regency last Saturday, in front of about 150 guests. The Hyatt donated the facility to the couple. In fact, just about provider to the wedding – photographer, florist, band, even their honeymoon destination – donated to the couple. Their wedding was entirely free to the couple.

Emily Sharp, a representative for the hotel, told The New York Post:

“It was an elegant, Nantucket type of theme, which is one of the couple’s favourite places, a nod to their cherished memories together, a real fairy-tale vision.”

The couple asked that, in lieu of gifts, guests make a donation to the Semper Fi Foundation, an organization that donates money, goods & services to injured service men and women for their weddings.

Costello appeared in one of the more memorable photographs to emerge from the Boston Marathon bombing. He appeared near the finish line, clothes shredded, skin burning, staggering aimlessly.

James was reportedly at the finish line at the time of the bombing to cheer on his friends, brothers JP and Paul Norden, both of whom would wind up losing a right leg after the bombing. The brothers told ABC News, at the time of the couple’s engagement last December, that they were “very happy for Jim and Kristina and wish them well.”

After the bombing, James spent several weeks at Boston’s Spauling Rehabilitation Hospital’s Burn Unit. There, he met nurse Krista D’Agostino, a travelling nurse whose duties at Spaulding overlapped partially with James’ sojourn.

“After sharing a handful of conversations, I realized not only how beautiful she was but also what a kind heart she had. I somehow convinced her to attend a benefit with me, which turned into a few dates, which turned into a few inseparable months.”

The couple got engaged last December (see this Inquisitr article), while on a European cruise – also donated.

After the wedding, the bride paid it forward by donating her dress to the Semper Fi foundation

The couple are currently on their honeymoon in Hawaii.
