A despondent Manchester United fan accidentally found solace last night in a winning betting slip despite the fact that the Red Devils were defeated 4-0 by lowly MK Dons.
Holly Griffiths had tried to put £2.50 ($4) on Louis Van Gaal's side to beat MK Dons, who are only in the third tier of the English soccer league system, by four goals to nil.
Before the game many pundits had predicted that, despite a rather poor start to his tenure at Old Trafford, Van Gaal would finally land his first victory as manager of United at Stadium MK.
But that didn't prove to be the case as MK Dons, despite the fact that United's squad is worth exponentially more, ended up beating their illustrious rivals 4-0 instead.
Most Manchester United fans were hugely embarrassed by the result, however 20-year-old Holly found herself rather pleased that the game had ended in this score-line.
Rather than actually putting $4 on Manchester United to beat MK Dons 4-0, she had in fact accidentally put it on the MK Dons to beat Manchester Untied 4-0. Which is exactly how it finished.
Because of her mistake Griffiths pocketed $2,000. Hollie took to Twitter to share the good/lucky news with her friends, and as you can imagine it immediately went viral:
Oh my god as if I won this on a free bet that I thought I was putting on united oh my god oh my god pic.twitter.com/TRdeRx8Jr8

Griffiths has now been speaking to the Daily Star about her lucrative error, and the aviation worker, who hails from Manchester, admitted that she made the mistake because she doesn't usually bet.
"I don't really bet - only the odd quid here and there - but my mate told me she had put on United to win 4-0, so I thought I might as well do that," she explained. "I also put a pound on us to win 3-0 - well I thought I did but I obviously wasn't concentrating and clicked the wrong button so I bet on MK Dons."
Griffiths admitted that she stopped watching the contest when it went to 3-0 because she assumed that her bet had failed. But when she went back on the Paddy Power app she realised what had actually taken place. "It was a weird feeling," she added. "I wanted United to win, but I wanted MK Dons to score again so I could win the money, I couldn't watch the last 10 minutes and had to tell my friends to let me know what happened."
