Pokémon Fighting Arcade Game To Release In Japan

Pokemon fans all over the world are drooling at the announcement of an arcade fighting game featuring their favorite pocket monsters. Pokken, created by the team that brought us Tekken, pits various Pokemon in real time face to face battle, unlike we have seen thus far.

Thus far, the game is only slated to release in Japan. However, Britton Peele, of Pop Culture Blog, feels that it might make its way to Westward.

“But while the game is currently only announced for Japanese arcades, I find it interesting that the US branches of The Pokemon Company posted about it as news. That’s not a confirmation that it will come to America (either as an arcade game or as a Wii U port), but it might be a sign that an English-language version is at least being considered.”

The announcement of the Pokemon fighting game, Pokken, was leaked by the Pokemon Company’s head chief in charge, Tsunekazu Ishihara on a NicoNico broadcast. The game is being developed by Namco Bandai and will include Ken form Tekken. Namco’s Katsuhiro Harada, the lead of the Tekken Team, shares what we can expect from Pokken Tournament.

“Whether you are a casual player, a regular player or a hardcore player, anyone who likes Pokémon can have fun,”

Even the producer of SoulCalibur shared some insight into the game.

“For adult Pokémon fans, because we got our best developers, we made the best graphics, and created the best action game, so please! Please look forward to this!”

Currently, the game is set to be an arcade style game, and there is no word on whether it will actually make it to a console. However, if Nintendo has any say in the matter, Pokken Tournament would be a perfect addition to the Wii U, or even the 3DS.

Although there is not a projected release date at this time, the concept seems to have been floating around since at least August of 2013. Britton Peele shared his thoughts on hearing about the game the first time.

“This isn’t the first time the idea of a Tekken-style Pokemon fighting game has been proposed. Back when E3 rumors were flying, there was a list floating around of games Nintendo was supposedly going to show. That list contained a supposed Wii U game called “Pokken Fighters,” and I found that idea so ridiculous that I practically dismissed the list on that alone.”

Despite his initial thoughts, I think it can be agreed, by the video above, this game looks amazing. What are your thoughts?
