Riff Raff And Katy Perry Recreate Justin Timberlake And Britney Spears’ Denim Disaster At MTV VMAs

Riff Raff and Katy Perry definitely win the award for the most random couple at the MTV Video Music Awards. They might look weird together, but you’ve got to give them props for embracing their unlikely relationship by rocking two of the wackiest looks at the VMAs.

To be fair, Uproxx pointed out that Katy Perry and Riff Raff were intentionally trying to look bad by paying homage to the infamous denim disaster that was Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears at the 2001 American Music Awards. You might remember Timberlake’s terrible denim tuxedo and Britney’s really bad jean maxi dress. The former pop power pair completed their crazy matchy-matchy looks with a denim cowboy hat and a denim purse.

Perry and Riff Raff also added the accessories to their outfits, but they blinged theirs out a bit more. Katy and the rapper wrapped themselves with yards of studs, and they rocked matching lion’s head belt buckles. Riff Raff wore his pink hair in zigzagged braids, and he added a grill and few platinum chains to his look.

Unsurprisingly, Twitter completely freaked out about Katy Perry and Riff Raff’s denim-on-denim fashion decision. Some fans were not happy about the couple’s attempt at emulating Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.

However, they also received plenty of praise.

There was even one fan who thought that Riff Raff would make a perfect candidate for Katy’s second husband.

Many Twitter users assumed that Perry and Riff Raff must be dating. After all, Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake were together when they rocked their matching denim outfits. However, perhaps the rapper and Perry were just attending the MTV VMAs as pals to promote their recent collaboration. According to MTV News, the unlikely duo recently teamed up for a remix of “This Is How We Do.” Katy announced the collaboration on Instagram with this confusing caption and crazy photo:

“MAY I PRESENT IN ALL ITS AQUABERRY VERSACNESS THE BEST REMIX OF ALL TIME EVEN BEFORE TIME EXISTED #THISISHOWWEDO FT. MY SIDEPIECE & THE ALADDIN TO MY JASMINE, RIFF RAFF! @jodyhighroller LINK IN BIO, PEEP DIS!”

As The Inquisitr previously reported, Katy Perry and Riff Raff sparked romance rumors back in March when Katy actually admitted to going on a date with the rapper. However, it’s possible that their outing was purely professional.
