Jessica Alba: Motherhood Made Me ‘Fearless’

If you think Jessica Alba looks pretty fearless in Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, then you have motherhood to thank for her on-screen fierceness.

Nearly a decade after she portrayed badass stripper Nancy in Sin City, Alba is back to do even more cinematic damage to the film’s assortment of over-the-top villains. However, this time around her character has more of an edge. Jessica believes she and Nancy have benefited quite a bit from the actress’ foray into motherhood.

Jessica Alba and Robert Rodriguez recently sat down for a chat with the folks over at Fox News Latino. During their conversation with the outlet, Alba revealed that she worked with a choreographer and an acting coach to prepare for her performance in the Sin City sequel. However, it was apparently motherhood that made Jessica totally fearless.

The actress explained:

“I became a mom, I have a successful company and so now when I approach my work as an actress I have a fearlessness – and working with Robert [Rodriguez] over the years, he really pushes you as an artist.”

Alba also provided some insight into her character’s frame of mind.

“Not every day does a girl, you know, chop her hair off and cut her face…. I felt like [the dance sequences] were rough and tough and hard, and raunchy and awful. [T]hat’s what I wanted to bring forward. That’s where Nancy was, emotionally.”

According to People, Jessica Alba didn’t have any trouble tapping into that fearlessness on the set of A Dame to Kill For. The actress revealed that she essentially didn’t have “anything to lose” by throwing herself into Nancy’s dark, dreary, and dangerous world.

Alba said of her career:

“I feel like I’ve done all the hard work. I really was married to my work for so long that I’ve kind of been there, done that. I was ready for a new phase in my life. When I became a mom, I just kind of opened up and got a new perspective. I have a fearlessness and a confidence that I think you can only get with experience and age. Some people get it earlier, but it took me a while…. What’s great is that when you’re older and sexy, you’re not really just a one-trick pony.”

Jessica Alba fans can catch the actress on the big screen this weekend in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Are you planning to catch the highly-anticipated sequel in theaters?
