Neil Patrick Harris Gets Walk of Fame Star, Jokes About Bar-Side Location

Neil Patrick Harris, the How I Met Your Mother star who got his big break on 80’s hit Doogie Howser, MD, showed up to receive his very own star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame yesterday.

Harris has experienced nearly cult-level popularity in recent years, leading up the hugely popular Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog created by geek-god Joss Whedon, and doing a hilarious cameo as himself in the Harold and Kumar franchise of films, including Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. The star poked a bit of fun at himself as he visited his new star outside a playhouse and a dive bar:

“As much of an honor as this is, unfortunately, it won’t be the first time I’ve been plastered on the sidewalk in front of the Frolic Room. And yes, that includes right now.”

Harris continued:

“Right now, my twins, Gideon and Harper, are too young to understand this honor… They spend most of their time peeing and vomiting on me. But let’s be honest, that’s probably what’s going to happen nightly to my star here outside the Frolic Room.”

Along with Harris’ partner David Burtka and Whedon, his How I Met Your Mother co-star Jason Segal also showed up to support Neil. Segal teased a bit about Harris’ child stardom, but then added:

“Quite simply, he’s the mostly wildly talented person I’ve ever been around… There’s no jokes coming up in this part, this part’s sincere: He can act and he can sing and he can dance, and he’s a magician, and he can host and he can direct. Like Joss said, he has the kind of talent that people had in the old days when you had to actually be talented to be famous.”

Segal then said that Harris could host “anything,” and joked his friend had been “lobbying” to host the star-receiving event for three weeks. Up next for NPH is A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas as well as The Muppets alongside Segal.
