Meet Elizabeth, the amazing swimming baby. When this video was taken, she was just 16 month old, but remember what you see here because give her 15 years or so and you just might be seeing Elizabeth in the Olympics. Because this little girl can swim!
Elizabeth was trained by a certified ISR (Infant Swim Resource) instructor, trained in specific techniques that teach babies as young as six months the invaluable skill of getting around in the water. Notice how Elizabeth now instinctively knows how to flip over on her back, staying afloat, and catch her breath when she feels herself running short.
But she can also make it across this pool the long way in one breath.
Before anyone freaks out, Elizabeth swims under strict supervision. Not only is she a great swimmer and professionally trained, her parents stand at the ready at the first sign that anything’s wrong. But so far so good.
“I, myself, am a registered nurse and my wife was a life guard for six years and taught swimming for three,” wrote the supervisor who posted and took this video of Elizabeth. “Not only are we both professionally trained in CPR and water safety I am certified in advanced pediatric life support. The child in the video (Elizabeth) has been trained properly by ISR certified instructors.”
Of course, it should go without saying that no one should try this with any child who has not been properly trained and remains under constant supervision.
“Please! do not just throw your child in the water and expect them to swim,” says the instructor. “That is both dangerous and a quick way to traumatize your child and scare them from ever swimming. ISR uses specialized techniques in training infants and toddlers.”
That said, Elizabeth is a pretty amazing little swimmer.
