William Hung Married: ‘American Idol’ Reject Of ‘She Bangs’ Fame Ties The Knot
American Idol reject William Hung got married recently, and the news is leading to a lot of jokes reminiscent of the former contestant’s rendition of Ricky Martin’s “She Bangs.” Hung’s performance went viral back in season 3 of the show, and he garnered a bit of fame in the wake of it all. These days he’s been laying low, but news of his wedding is seemingly thrusting him back into the spotlight again.
Rumor Fix shares the news that William Hung got married in June. The wedding is said to have taken place in Alhambra, California, and the site does have a photo of Hung and his new wife seemingly taken just after the wedding.
Hung dropped out of UC Berkley, where he was a civil engineering student, after his rise to fame in 2003 to pursue a music career. Some would say he was even moderately successful for a while. Though he was never lauded as a great singer, many loved his positive attitude and determination.
As the Daily Mail notes, Hung naturally was raked over the coals by Simon Cowell after his audition. He simply replied, “I already gave my best, and I have no regrets at all.” Paula Abdul told him that he had “the best attitude yet.” Hung stayed in the music industry until he took on a role as statistician for the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. Rumor Fix says that he is now working for the L.A. County Department of Public Health as an administrative assistant.
E! Online confirmed that William Hung got married, but little else is known about the wedding or his new bride. Though he is out of the music industry at this point, he did manage to put together three albums during his time pursuing a singer career. It seems he ended up selling about 200,000 units. He also ended up with a guest stint on Arrested Development and he made appearances on shows with Ryan Seacrest, Howard Stern, and Jimmy Kimmel. In addition, he garnered repeat return performances on American Idol, with his last coming in 2010.
Though there have been plenty of horrific auditions air on American Idol since Hung’s on season 3, many would say nobody has ever managed to top him. Certainly nobody else has achieved the notoriety that he did for his crazy rendition of “She Bangs.” He may be out of the public eye now, but fans are happy to hear the news that William Hung got married. This positive news is sure welcome for American Idol fans, who recently were working through news of Michael Johns’ death and Josh Gracin’s apparent suicide threat.
