Tom Brady Earned $31 Milllion Last Year, But Still Isn’t The Breadwinner Of His Family

Tom Brady may have pulled in more than $30 million last year, but at home in his giant mansion he’s still not the breadwinner.

A new list from Forbes showed that his supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen is the highest-paid model in the world, making an estimated $47 million in the past year. Her fortune came thanks to modeling work and a host of endorsement deals ranging from Oral-B to Chanel and Carolina Herrera.

Gisele crushed her modeling competition, the list showed, making close to $40 million more than hear nearest competitor. Fellow supermodels Doutzen Kroes and longtime Victoria’s Secret model Adriana Lima each earned about $8 million, putting them in second place. A group of other models including Kate Upton and Kate Moss tied for third with $7 million each.

Tom Brady, meanwhile, failed to even making a list Forbes compiled of the 100 highest-paid athletes. Part of that is Tom’s own doing, however. In February 2013 he inked a contract extension that gave him just a $1 million base salary in 2013 and a $2 million base salary for the upcoming season.

The restructured contract gave the New England Patriots some room to re-sign other key players, though it didn’t exactly leave Tom Brady out in the cold either. Brady had some significant incentives built in, as well as guarantees in case he was injured.

From USA Today:

“A breakdown of Brady’s pact, according to a person who reviewed details of the deal, reveals that the total signing bonus for the five-year, $57 million contract is $30 million — which includes $3 million in new money and $27 million that was due to Brady from his previous deal that is converted into a signing bonus for salary cap accounting. The new agreement replaces the four-year, $72 million extension that took effect in 2011, one year after Brady signed it.”

“The salaries for the final three years of the pact — $7 million in 2015, followed by $8 million and $9 million — are guaranteed against injury. If Brady is on the roster for the final game of the 2014 season, the $24 million in salaries for the final three years will be guaranteed for skill, too.”

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen are also getting richer as a couple. Earlier this year they sold their sprawling Brentwood, California, estate to rap mogul Dr. Dre for $40 million, turning a nice $29 million profit on the home.
