WWE SummerSlam: Nikki Bella Turns On Her Sister Brie, Helping Stephanie McMahon Win

WWE SummerSlam is always a great show each year and helps make each summer interesting for the WWE fans. WWE loves to start new, major storylines at this show and they did not disappoint us last night. We saw a Beast win the WWE World Heavyweight Title, a movie star lose his title, a black widow lose to tarantula, and more. However, none were more shocking than Nikki Bella turning on her own twin sister Brie Bella.

The two have gone down different paths, but always seemed to be together in doing so. Nikki dates John Cena and Brie just married Daniel Bryan. This is real-life material that WWE has simply been able to use on WWE programming. WWE heavily abused Daniel Bryan during his run to win the WWE World Heavyweight Title. He finally won the big one at WrestleMania 30. A week later, he and Brie were married. It was a big deal for both and the year of a lifetime.

Then it was reported that Bryan needed neck surgery to repair a nagging issue. It was supposed to be a minor operation. He was going to miss a little bit of time, but originally it was only supposed to be about a month. He was not healing right, so the champ had to think about dropping the titles so he could rest and that WWE could move on without him in his absence. While this was understandable, it was a big blow to fans and obviously Bryan.

So a story was done that either Brie could quit the WWE or Bryan would surrender the WWE World Heavyweight Title. Brie refused to allow Bryan to surrender the championship, so she quit. Eventually Bryan had to give up the title regardless, making the Brie departure worthless in the end. In her absence, her sister Nikki took the brunt of the punishment from The Authority, specifically Stephanie McMahon. Neither Brie or Bryan were there to take the punishment the Authority had, so Nikki got it all. From random beat downs to handicap matches, it was miserable for her.

Finally, it all stopped when Stephanie McMahon slapped Brie and was sent to jail. Brie said she would drop all charges if she could have a SummerSlam match. She didn’t want it with just anyone though, she wanted Stephanie. The two went at it verbally and physically leading up to the event, finally the two were at SummerSlam set to square off.

Stephanie came out looking amazing, and her in-ring skill had improved drastically from the time she wrestled a decade ago. Keep in mind, despite all the crap she takes, Stephanie is a former Women’s Champion. That is commendable in the time she won it.

Brie was getting ahead in the match, looking like she was going to win it. Then the COO of the WWE came out. Triple H decided he would get involved to make sure Stephanie won. Then Nikki Bella came out. All of us were thinking at least Nikki is here and someone else is in Brie’s corner. Brie wanted to be sure that she had the leg up so she took out The Game herself. Stephanie was then surrounded by the Bella Twins.

There was no where for the Billion Dollar Princess to go but down, and down hard. After all she did to the Bella Twins in WWE, it was finally time for her to get what she had coming to her. Then, the unthinkable happened.

Nikki turned on her own twin sister Brie, knocking her out. Then, all Stephanie had to do was pick the bones and earn the win. Nikki looked distraught after the fact, as if she was forced to turn on her sister. She appeared to not want to do it, but had to. So it seems that Stephanie made Nikki do something she would never do unless she simply had to do so.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Twins on RAW this Monday night. Brie is going to want answers and if Nikki doesn’t have them, there will be a problem. Stephanie has tried to take everything from Brie from her career to her husband. Now, she has his sister and what will happen next for the two in the WWE is up in the air but it will be a storyline we cannot miss.

WWE has had brother vs brother before. However, to my knowledge this would be the first time WWE had any sister vs sister rivalry in WWE. Of course, WWE has never really had a lot of sisters together in WWE at the same time. So that could be the main issue with that.

The two have expressed wanting to work together in the past, so it is not surprising that WWE would allow them to do so while they have them both. However, the storyline has to be good for the fans to care. If it’s not, people will sour on seeing too much Bella on TV. This will impact Total Divas most likely as well. There is no telling if WWE will make this rivalry extend to their “reality” show or not. We do know that WWE was filming a lot for the show at SummerSlam. So this will be a main focus for them.

Whether or not the WWE extends this into other avenues is up in the air, but WWE most likely will want to make the most out of it. What do you think about the Nikki Bella turn? Dumb or best for business?
