13 Prisoners Escape Brazilian Jail, But The Best Part Is They Filmed Their Daring Getaway

A prison escape is almost always a stealth mission. Identities need to be kept on the down-low. However, these 13 prisoners perhaps didn’t grasp the basics of jail-breaking. Why else would they film their daring getaway and post it online for the world to see?

A group of prisoners escaped from a Brazilian prison by digging an underground tunnel and filmed their brazen jailbreak on mobile phones to post online. The thirteen prisoners managed to make a run from their cells in Rio Verde, Goias State. The jail’s CCTV footage shows some of the men darting across the prison yard.

Was it so simple to dig a long tunnel and escape from the Brazilian jail? The daring escape raises so many questions. How did these inmates manage to dig such a long tunnel? Where did they hide the dirt that was usurped? How did the prisoners get themselves mobile phones? Which brand and type of mobile phone do they use in prison? Ok. The last question was a bit absurd, but the other questions may soon be answered as an investigation is currently underway.

However, it’s no mystery that the prisoners’ cell wasn’t inspected, reported Sky News. In fact, Police deputy Jacqueline Camargo Machado admitted that the prisoners’ cell had not been inspected for a while,

“The guard that was there on the day was looking after things. We now know that there had not been an inspection of the cell for almost 60 days. They dug a tunnel and it was easy to escape.”

As always, the inefficient and probably sleeping guard on duty has been suspended. But he has been charged with a rather hilarious charge. The guard-on-duty has been suspended for “not managing to foil the prisoners’ secret subterranean plot.”

As far as daring escapes go, Brazil is perhaps the most notorious country. In this same month last year, more than 50 prisoners calmly climbed down a tree that grew adjacent to the prison wall, reported International Business Times. The number is astonishing because the prison complex housed just 100 detainees. Having set fire to their mattresses, 54 inmates manages to escape the confines of the Fundação Casa youth detention facility in Sao Paulo. Nearly 30 staff members were held hostage during the riot and the facility’s director was admitted to hospital with cuts to his head and bruised ribs.

Perhaps using the video footage and prison records, the police officials have managed to track down two of the prisoners who had the audacity to post the video of them escaping.
