Eva Green Reflects On ‘Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’ – It Was ‘Corrupt’ And ‘ Bonkers’

Eva Green is starring in Robert Rodriguez’s return to Frank Miller’s Sin City, in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Eva Green plays said Dame in the role of Ava Lord. Eva recently sat down with British GQ to talk about preparing for the seductive, sultry role.

Green (34) said about preparing to take on the role:

“I watched a lot of film noir. Double Indemnity with Barbara Stanwyck, other films with Betty Davis. Ava Lord is a very extreme femme fatale, she’s really very jaded, she manipulates men, she feels empowered and smarter when she does it, she’s incredibly full-on – nothing is sacred. The main thing is to have fun with those kinds of characters. She’s so free and corrupt, she’s just bonkers. It really was so fun to play.”

When asked about working on a green screen set – something essential to capturing the unique style of the Sin City films, Eva Green said:

“At first you’re overwhelmed, but then you get used to it. You know that Robert [Rodriguez] and Frank [Miller] are going to do amazing things post filming. To have real actors to act with is always the main thing when making a movie so that was fun and the atmosphere on set was really gentle, laid back and just incredibly fun.”

Eva Green continued talking about her character in Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, saying the character has no qualms about people getting hurt if they’re in the way of her getting what she wants.

“She’s obsessed with money and power. She doesn’t apologize about her behavior and in that sense I wish I could be a bit more like that. But she does take it to the extreme, because people die for her so I wouldn’t want that, but to have her power would sometimes be helpful.”

When Eva was asked about whether or not she felt intimidated by the number of extremely beautiful women featured in the film such as Rosario Dawson, Jessica Alba and Jamie Chung, Green said that she actually didn’t meet any of them while filming the movie. Eva Green said that Dawson, Alba and Chung were all finished with their parts of production by the time Green arrived on set. However, Green said she did get to meet the other woman doing publicity for the film, and all of them were “lovely girls.”

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is being called “a return to comic fantasies for adults” by The Scotsman. You can see Eva Green in the role of Ava Lord when the film opens on August 22nd.
