Denzel Washington Detox: Actor’s Rep Denies Detox Treatment, Calls It ‘Health Cleanse’

Denzel Washington needed to detox after some “hard partying” according to TMZ. The actor reportedly needed help righting himself after a month of vacation with his wife. The site calls the trip “alcohol-fueled” and “gluttonous,” saying that Washington needed two weeks of treatment because of all the food and wine he consumed. Washington stayed in an Orange County residence while doing this detox of sorts.

Despite reports trying to make it seem like Denzel was in a rehab, getting help for an alcohol problem, his rep says that he was actually doing a “health cleanse,” which is something he does every time he has a big project coming up. His rep told Entertainment Tonight that this cleanse was nothing out of the ordinary for the Flight actor.

“He does this health cleanse every time he’s about to go back to work and start his conditioning and nutritional program. Always cleans up after the family vacation in prep for work. Nothing new.”

The Denzel Washington detox sounds more like a way for him to get his body back on a clean eating regime so that he can stay healthy and in shape for his upcoming work. Often when people eat and drink more than they normally do, their bodies do strange things: Bloating, fatigue, and many other symptoms can set it. It’s not uncommon for people to do a cleanse or a detox after a vacation, because it’s a way to get your body transitioned — and cleaned out.

According to Mail Online, Denzel and his wife, Pauletta, spent the month of July on a yacht, traveling around and eating some of the finest foods. Evidently not limiting themselves to fruits, vegetables, and lean meats, it sounds as though Denzel needed to return to his regular eating habits, and he did so by enlisting the help of a personal trainer, a nutritionist, and a chef.

Aside from Denzel Washington’s detox — or “health cleanse” — the actor also made headlines last month when a report was released about him getting heckled while performing in A Raisin In The Sun on Broadway. As previously reported by The Inquisitr, quite a few people yelled to the famed actor from the crowd during his three-month stay at Ethel Barrymore Theater.

Denzel will soon be promoting his new film The Equalizer which hits theaters in the U.S. on September 26.
