TNA News: TNA Tag Team Champion Breaks Leg At Live Event, Future Of Tag Team Titles In Question

In what can only be seen as sad news, TNA Tag Team Champion Davey Richards broke his leg during a tag team match. He and his Wolves partner Eddie Edwards took on Devon and Mr. Anderson at a live event in Pennsylvania yesterday, and somehow he ended up going down with an apparent leg injury. TNA took him out of the match early and he was transported to the hospital immediately. Abyss replaced him in the match for a second only for Edwards to eventually win the match on his own.

Richards got to the hospital to discover that he’d suffered a broken fibula during the match. The fibula is a massively important part of the leg that, when injured, can affect not only the way you walk, but it can also affect other areas of your leg. It is called the “calf bone” for good reason, in that is located at the calf. The issue is that, when broken, it affects both the knee and ankle. Meaning any attempts to wrestle or walk could risk injuring those areas as well.

This is why a broken fibula is so severe. It may not be a knee or ankle, which most find to be far worse. However, it is a major area of the leg that if left untreated could ruin a person’s body for years to come. Even a small crack or fracture here could do damage to the leg over time. This is why Richards has to end up staying out of action.

Some say that MVP was involved in matches when his leg was hurt. Arguably, he was a moron for doing those matches. However, he was also protected somewhat as the knee where he was hurt was stable and in position to heal. So he could fall, and as long as the knee was stable, it could heal. There is still risk in it, which is why it is idiotic to wrestle with a knee injury. That’s how TNA does business though people.

Richards has really no way to keep his fibula from harm when wrestling, especially with his style of wrestling. Due to this, he cannot wrestle in TNA for a while. Richards has been hurt in the past, so he has known pain and how to recover from it. Most assume he will make a full recovery.

Famously, UFC Star Anderson Silva broke his tibia and fibula during his Middleweight Title fight rematch with Chris Weidman. Silva has recovered and will be fighting in a few months. If the UFC star can come back to train and fight after that type of injury in the same area at a higher severity, TNA’s Davey Richards will do just fine. However, everyone heals differently.

broken fibula

As you can see from the picture above, while this is NOT the X-Ray for Richards it is a picture of a broken fibula. As you can see, the bone he broke is small which is good news for the current TNA Tag Team Champion.

The average recovery time if everything heals properly for a broken fibula, if there is no major surgery needed, is around three to five months. This means Richards could be back wrestling with TNA by the end of the year. This is a big deal for TNA as they do not have to lose Richards for a long period of time. Sadly, he will not be able to perform at Bound for Glory. However, this might be a very good thing for his partner Eddie Edwards, as the last time the duo split up to pursue other interests, Edwards ended up becoming the ROH World Champion.

So Edwards could do well in a singles run for the time being that Richards is gone. Could Edwards be TNA World Champion? That is tough to know. He does have the potential however. TNA will miss the Wolves being together, but unlike other breaks it seems Richards was lucky this time around. The bone will be fragile to begin with so he will not be able to work the same as he did right away upon his return but the same Davey Richards will be seen again. That much can make any TNA fan happy.
