New Video Game Releases For The Week Of August 17, 2014

The new video game releases for the week of August 17, 2014 are the harbingers for the forthcoming fall deluge of games. Similar to last week, the PlayStation platform is seeing another batch of indie games make their way to the consoles and handhelds. However, this week will see some new games come to the Xbox One console which is still lagging behind the PlayStation 4 in total world wide sales.

The marquee title for the new video game releases for the week of August 17, is undoubtedly Diablo III: Ultimate Evil Edition for the PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The expansion pack that came to the PC several months ago is finally making its way to the home consoles and will feature a character transfer ability as detailed on the official Battle.net site.

The expansion continues the story from Diablo III that finds the arch demon Diablo imprisoned by the player in the Black Soulstone, which now contains the essence of all seven of the prime evils. Tyarel, the fallen angel of Justice, takes the stone and six Haradrim to bury it deep in the ground. Before the burial is complete, the former Archangel of Wisdom, Malthael, appears and takes the soul stone for his own leaving all dead but one Horadrim and Tyrael. The player then undertakes the quest to defeat the self proclaimed “Angel of Death” before he can release the evils back into the world.

Where Diablo III: Ultimate Evil takes us into the realms of death and despair, Plants Vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare will arrive to take PlayStation 3 and 4 owners into one of the most critically acclaimed multi-player shooters of the year. The Xbox One and 360 version was a timed exclusive and now will be available at both retail and digital storefronts for the PlayStation Network.

Garden Warfare contains a variety of game types that are common to most multiplayer shooters, with the comical twist one can expect from a Plants Vs. Zombies title. Modes such as Gardens and Graveyards is a take on the Modern Warfare inspired “War” mode where the zombies push further into Plant territory and must capture hardpoints on the way to the final objective. Once a hard point is taken over by the zombies, it is lost forever to them. Other modes include Team Vanquish, Gnome Bomb, and Garden Ops, the latter of which is a take on the Gears of War horde mode in which the plants must defend against an ever increasing wave of zombies.

There is a plethora of other games vying for your dollars this week and you can view the whole list below.
