‘Mortal Kombat’ Bringing Back Long Dead Fatality

Mortal Kombat’s most famous line form the long running video game series is when the game implores you to “Finish Him!” Recent reports indicate that Mortal Kombat X is going to bring back a long dead fatality so you can do just that when the title launches in the coming months.

Mortal Kombat X developer Ed Boon sat down for an interview with IGN at this week’s Gamescom and explained the game is bringing back a particular fatality type from a previous version of the series.

“For those who are familiar with the ‘Mortal Kombat,’ we’ve first had the Fatality and we added a Babality. We had the Friendship moves, Brutality moves and all of these crazy things over the years,” Boon teased. “We are going to be reinstating an ‘Ality’ from a previous game into ‘Mortal Kombat X.’ And I can’t wait to be able to talk about it but at the moment I can’t.”

This isn’t the first time Mortal Kombat makers have announced they are bringing something back that was uber popular to Mortal Kombat X.

It was previously announced this version of will have a playable Kano. There will also be some new characters that are specifically geared towards making sure those new to the series don’t feel as though they are an afterthought.

Joystiq believes for this new fatality announcement, Boon is referencing moves that came out with Mortal Kombat 3. The site does leave some room for other possibilities, including the chance this could also be the return of the comically non-violent “Friendship Finishers” that made their appearance in Mortal Kombat 2.

It seems just as likely to us that this definitive version of the game could also have a combination of those two features or some sort of swirling together of everything that was left out of 2011’s version.

It seems fatalities were never supposed to be removed from the long running franchise, but the developers at NetherRealm ran out of time when they were putting together the previous game.

Clearly, considering that finishing you opponent has been a staple, it makes sense the creators would want to make sure it returns for this version.

While the release date still isn’t specifically know, we do know its going to hit store shelves and digital downloads sometime in early 2015. That means the early spring of next year could be a busy time for gamers.

Mortal Kombat X will be available for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PC, PS3 and PS4.
