Real-Life Superhero Takes Ice Bucket Challenge To New Level Via Stun Gun

By now, you should be well aware of the ice bucket challenge that has taken the social media world by storm. It all started on July 15, when, according to Mashable, golfer Chris Kennedy “challenged his cousin Jeanete Senerchia,” whose husband suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), to the challenge. This set off a chain reaction that eventually resulted in the ice bucket challenge going viral, with numerous celebrities (Conan O’Brien, Martha Stewart, Justin Timberlake, Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, etc.) having participated.

It works like this. Once someone challenges you, you have the option to either donate $100 to an ALS charity or “grab a bucket of ice water, pour it over your head and have someone film the whole thing.” You then post the footage to a social network and challenge your friends. Simple enough, right?

The Washington Post reports that by August 12, the ALS Association had raised a whopping $1.35 million, which is about 50 times more than the association “usually gets this time of year.” That’s absolutely amazing, right? Unfortunately, it looks like the story has possibly taken a turn for the worst.

According to the Huffington Post, a nutty fellow from Seattle who claims to be the leader of a real-life vigilante superhero group filmed his own ice bucket challenge. However, “he had someone shock him with [a] stun gun right after the water was dumped on his hand.” And then he fell into a mini pool full of ice water. Crazy, right?

So who is this possibly insane masked pseudo-superhero? ABC News identifies him as Phoenix Jones, a now 26-year-old male who literally fights crime equipped with a superhero outfit (“a skintight black-and-gold, belted costume, a cape and a fedora”), a bulletproof vest, a taser, a net gun and even a grappling hook! And it should come as no surprise to you that he has a rather uneasy relationship with the ACTUAL authorities. DUH!

Regardless, his video has already garnered 50,000 views, though by the time you read this, the views will likely be higher.

Just be sure you think twice before trying to repeat this extraordinarily dangerous version of the ice bucket challenge yourself. You could wind up incapacitating yourself to such a degree that you wouldn’t be able to pull yourself up out of the water. And according to Medical News Today, “tasers, also known as stun guns, can cause sudden cardiac arrest and death.”

Plus, and more importantly, it’s best to leave this crazy version of the ice bucket challenge to the superheroes!
