Intruders Break Into Ray Allen’s House, Police Don’t Arrest Them

Several teenage “partygoers” broke into NBA superstar Ray Allen’s Coral Gables, Florida, home yesterday morning, and police didn’t arrest any of them.

Police say that the group of teens had been partying next door to Ray Allen’s residence and decided at 2:30 am to check out the home of the Miami Heat free agent, according to NBC Connecticut.

According to Coral Gable Police Spokeswoman Kelly Denham, the kids didn’t think Ray Allen and his family were home and that they thought it would be “cool” to go inside and check it out. The partygoers entered the home from a rear, unlocked door. Allen’s wife, Shannon, and their kids were sleeping upstairs, but woke up when they heard the teenage intruders.

“She heard people walking up the stairs and that’s when she yelled out to them, ‘What are you doing in my house?’ As soon as they heard that, they fled the house.”

The teenagers immediately ran home and told some of their parents what had happened. In turn, the parents drove the teens to the police station to report the incident.

Denham continued:

“They stated that they did enter the home. They were there to see where Ray Allen had lived. They honestly thought that he had moved from the house.”

The teens who broke into the Ray Allen residence were detained by police and questioned for several hours. Spokeswoman Kelly Denham said that the teen partygoers could face misdemeanor trespassing charges if Ray Allen’s wife decides to press charges.

Explaining to police, the teens said they saw a bunch of boxes and furniture covered up in the home and thought that Ray Allen — who is now a free agent — had left the Miami Heat and was going to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers like LeBron James. Ray Allen has played for the Miami Heat for the last two years but hasn’t confirmed whether he will play in the NBA next year or retire.

Police officials say that the seven teens involved in breaking into Ray Allen’s house were “crying” and “terrified.” Police didn’t arrest the teens then and there because an officer must witness the actual event for a criminal trespass charge to be made. The teens also weren’t arrested or charged with burglary, because there was no forced entry, no provable intent, and nothing was stolen.

According to the Miami Herald, Ray Allen’s wife, Shannon, does intend to press charges.
