Disney’s Eric Goldberg, the supervising animator of the character Genie from Aladdin, which was voiced by Robin Williams, released a touching tribute to the late actor.

Disney’s touching tribute to Williams

The graphic is a simple black-and-white, featuring Robin William’s famous character Genie, from Aladdin, drawn not with lines but with brilliant white stars, smiling down at the world literally from the heavens. The picture was captioned with a statement written by the chairman and CEO if Walt Disney, Robert Igor:

“We’re deeply saddened by the loss of Robin Williams, a wonderfully gifted man who touched our hearts and never failed to make us laugh. An incredible actor and a comedic genius, Robin will always be remembered for bringing some of the world’s favorite characters to life, from his zany alien on ABC’s Mork & Mindy to the irascible genie in Disney’s Aladdin. He was a true Disney Legend, a beloved member of our family, and he will be sorely missed. We join Robin’s friends and fans everywhere in mourning, and offer our thoughts and condolences to his family during this difficult time.”

Williams was found dead in his California home at age 63. After a lifetime of bringing the world laughter and entertainment through film and on stage, Williams apparently suffered from a deep depression, as reports confirm that his death was a suicide. His death has left the world shocked and sorrowed, but full of remembrances for the type of man he was as he lived; talented, vibrant, gifted and, above all, funny.

As President Obama said:

“Robin Williams was an airman, a doctor, a genie, a nanny, a President, a professor, a bangarang Peter Pan, and everything in between. But he was one of a kind. He arrived in our lives as an alien — but he ended up touching every element of the human spirit. He made us laugh. He made us cry. He gave his immeasurable talent freely and generously to those who needed it most — from our troops stationed abroad to the marginalized on our own streets. The Obama family offers our condolences to Robin’s family, his friends, and everyone who found their voice and their verse thanks to Robin Williams.”

Many did find their voice thanks to Robin Williams, from Louis C.K. to Jimmy Fallon…and, of course, Disney’s Genie from Aladdin, who said himself: “I’m history! No, I’m mythology! Nah, I don’t care what I am; I’m free.”
