Joanie Really Does Love Chachi: Pit Bull Saves The Life Of Its Injured Chihuahua Friend [Video]

The story of a pit bull who saved the life of her Chihuahua friend is incredible and heartwarming. A pit bull named Joanie carried her Chihuahua friend, Chachi, to safety after Chachi developed an eye infection.

Though it is apparent that the ABC news anchor covering the segment in this video has never seen Happy Days, the story itself is beautiful. Pit bull Jonie was found carrying her injured friend, Chachi, inside her mouth, roaming around a Savannah, Georgia, neighborhood on July 10. The pit bull was seen by numerous witnesses caring for her injured Chihuahua friend as she carried her gently down the street.

The pit bull would carry the tiny Chihuahua in her mouth and then stop every so often to clean and care for the wounded eye. The duo was found by some passing by officers and taken to Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Animal Control Shelter. At the shelter, Chachi was treated but they were unable to save the eye. However, the eye has been stitched up and Joanie is still as much in love with Chachi as the day they arrived together.

"It's not every day we get to see such devotion between two special dogs like this," said Animal Control Officer Christina Sutherin on the shelter's facebook page. "They are both such sweet animals. But the relationship they share just sets them apart. It would be wonderful if we could find a home that could take both of them. But that is not always possible."
On July 23, animal shelter officers posted a remarkable update, Joanie and Chachi had found a forever home together in Florida. The pair will not be able to go to their new home until the end of August due to animal transportation laws in Georgia, the animals must wait a 30 day period after vaccination to cross state borders. However, the two will be leaving for their new home soon.

With Wrigley Gum heiress, Helen Rich, having taken in another abandoned dog recently who was rejected by his family after walking over 30 miles back home, one is left to wonder, could her estate be the new forever home for Joanie and Chachi?

What do you think? Could the heiress be the one behind the adoption of Joanie and Chacchi, the unlikely pit bull and chihuahua duo?
