Borderlands PC patch out, adds Steam Cloud support and BTest

As promised, the Borderlands patch that adds Steam Cloud functionality went live over on Steam earlier today.

In addition to adding Steam Cloud support, the patch also added in “BTest”, an optional feature that sends certain information about the game, such as weapon usage, visits to location, and other such nerdy stats.

The goal is to see what areas players prefer, what type of weapon players prefer, and so on. With this data, Gearbox can make improvements to Borderlands 2 based on all of the data; if players absolutely hate a certain type of weapon, Gearbox will no doubt find out. If, like me, having to go to Rust Commons West makes you want to claw your own eyes out, they’ll know.

If having your Borderlands data transferred over to Gearbox isn’t your cup of tea, don’t worry – BTest is completely optional, and must be enabled in a new menu option.

Personally, I couldn’t care less if Gearbox pries into my Borderlands activity if it means that Borderlands 2 will be a better game for it. Not sure what they’ll get out of my playthrough, though, other than the fact that my Siren really loves SMGs. Oh, and that I hate Rust Commons.

Borderlands 2 is due out on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime after April of next year.
