When his grandfather, 85-year-old François Vermeir of Belgium, Germany, lost his wife of 63 years and his dog all within a few months time, the grandson, Davy Vanhaesendonck, thought it would be a nice surprise to offer their grief-stricken grandfather a new puppy to keep him company. The grandfather’s response to the gift will bring tears to your eyes.
According to Davy Vanhaesendonck, who uploaded the video:
“After a marriage of 63 years together, grandma passed away on July 26th 2014 after a short, but intense disease. Grandpa also lost his doggy all within 4 months. To give him energy and the courage to continue his life… We gave him this present. A moment filled with emotions!”
In the video you see Vanhaesendonck and his family preparing to show their grandfather the new surprise, a Yorkshire Terrier puppy named Snoopy. Davy’s daughter, Lisa, can be seen holding the puppy when they enter Francois’ home. The family announces that they have a surprise, “something to keep you company.”
When Francois sees the puppy he is brought to tears of joy and exclaims, “I can’t believe it!” He thanks his grandson profusely for the gift and holds the tiny puppy tightly as he pets its fur. The great-granddaughter, Lisa, then tells her grandfather that the puppy’s name is Snoopy.
Vanhaesendonck family isn’t the first one to surprise his grandparent with a special gift. This grandmother receives a priceless gift from her grandson on her 100th birthday, a promise he kept and grandma is excited.
What do you think of the family surprising their grandfather with a new puppy? Was it too soon to introduce a new pet, or exactly what Francois needed to help with the grieving process?
