Hate Jared Leto? You Might After You See This…

Jared Leto has had an enviable career-recovery story in the last year. Sure, his band 30 Seconds to Mars was pretty popular in the time he spent away from the big screen, and even if Leto’s band hadn’t kept him in the spotlight, roles in classics like Fight Club would keep his name fresh even if he died tomorrow. However, you might hope he does after you read these memes fans created from his personal twitter.

Of course, the meme creators misquoted this as being from Jared’s mouth — it’s actually a quote from Seinfeld — but it wouldn’t be the first time Leto stepped on progressive toes since his return. Jared won “Best Supporting Actor” at this year’s Academy Awards for his portrayal of a transgendered woman in Dallas Buyers Club, sealing the deal for a return to A-lister status for Leto — despite the fact that trans people and their allies weren’t exactly ecstatic about his performance. Jared responded to said criticism at a Santa Barbara film festival in February, reported The Guardian.

Because I’m a man, I don’t deserve to play that part? So you would hold a role against someone who happened to be gay or lesbian – they can’t play a straight part?… Then you’ve made sure people that are gay, people that aren’t straight, people like the Rayons of the world would never have the opportunity to turn the tables and explore parts of that art.

But the possibly offensive tweets were perhaps not the most cringe-worthy pulled from his posts… which are quite frequent.

As Complex pointed out, the next photo created quite a stir when it was first posted — considering that Frederick Douglass was talking about fighting against slavery, and as the magazine pointed out, Leto is sitting in an outfit that probably cost hundreds of dollars taking iPhone pictures for his Instagram.
