J.K. Rowling Pens Letter, From Dumbledore, To Texas Family Massacre Survivor

Famed Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling penned a letter, from Dumbledore, to the 15-year-old survivor of a horrific family massacre in Texas. Cassidy Stay became an instant sensation, when — after witnessing her parents and four sibling being murdered, execution style and miraculously surviving — she gave a speech quoting the famous fantasy character.

The contents of the letter are unknown at this point, however, a spokesperson for J.K. Rowling confirmed that the prolific author had written a note to Cassidy, after she became aware of her story.

“We can confirm that JK Rowling was in touch with Cassidy Stay, however, the contents of the letter remain private.” the statement read.

Last month, prosecutors say Ronald Lee Haskell tied up Cassidy’s family inside their Houston, Texas home, ordered them to lay face down, and proceeded to shoot each one of them in the head, execution-style. Incredibly, the teen survived her gunshot wound and three-days later gave a moving speech remembering her family.

Addressing a crowd of well-wishers in Houston, the Texas family massacre survivor thanked the community for the support they had offered her during a most trying time and quoted J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter character, Albus Dumbledore, saying:

“In The Prisoner of Azkaban, Dumbledore says: ‘Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times if one only remembers to turn on the light.'”

Social media immediately latched on to the story, noting Cassidy’s apparent love for Harry Potter and a Facebook campaign called “We Want J.K. Rowling to Meet Cassidy Stay” was started. So far, more than 7,700 people have “liked” the page and, more importantly, the author noticed and even though she didn’t meet the teen in person, she sent her a handwritten letter.

Additionally the Texas publication, Houston Chronicle reported that a close friend of the family massacre survivor, confirmed that Cassidy had indeed received a handwritten letter from Rowling, in the voice of Dumbledore, written in purple ink. The 15-year-old has also received a wand, an acceptance letter to Hogwarts, plus a school supply list, and the third Harry Potter book autographed by J.K. Rowling.

The brave girl has received overwhelming support, following the Texas massacre that killed all her immediate family, but couldn’t kill her spirit and love of life. A fundraising page has, so far, generated more than $400,000 to support Cassidy Say, who will no doubt need encouragement and comfort in coming years. J.K. Rowling, clearly has her heart in the right place.
