‘Boy Meets World’ Spin-Off, ‘Girl Meets World’, Renewed For Season Two

The Boy Meets World spin-off, Girl Meets World, has captivated audiences of all ages, and while season one of the show is still in progress, Disney has announced that they have already gone ahead and renewed the show for a second season.

While the hit ’90s sitcom Boy Meets World followed the daily lives of Cory Matthews (Ben Savage), Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel), and Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) and their family and friends, the Disney Channel spin-off, Girl Meets World, follows the lives of Riley Matthews (Rowan Blanchard), Maya Hart (Sabrina Carpenter) and their friends and family. Of course Fishel and Savage took up their roles once more as Topanga and Cory, and now we get to see them living out parenthood and guiding their children through life.

The Boy Meets World spin-off first premiered on Friday June 27 and according to a previous report by The Inquisitr, the pilot episode of Girl Meets World had some very mixed reviews. The biggest concern fans of Boy Meets World had was that the new spin-off wouldn’t be the same and could stand the chance of ruining their childhood memories. Ben Savage addressed this matter in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“I don’t think Boy Meets World fans are going to be disappointed. I know that there’s a lot of reservations from Boy Meets World fans that the show is not going to be how it was and it’s going to ruin their childhood memories. That’s not true. This is Girl Meets World; it’s a different show, it’s speaking to a young generation. However, we’ve got a lot of the same cast, we’ve got the same writers, we’ve got the same producers, we have the same messages that we want to get out.”

All fears aside, adults who grew up on Boy Meets World sat down with or without children and checked out Girl Meets World, and many have fallen in love all over again. According to E! News, Girl Meets World has averaged around three million viewers per episode and has ranked as one of the top kids’ shows on TV.

“The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with Boy Meets World,” said Adam Bonnett, Executive Vice President of Original Programming at Disney Channel. “We’re looking forward to watching Riley Matthews and Maya Hart make the world their own, as Cory and Topanga teach them life lessons along the way.”

So far this season we have seen a special appearance by Mr. Feeny (William Daniels) and Entertainment Weekly has reported that Lee Norris, also known as good old Stuart Minkus will be making an appearance on the August 15 episode!
