Katie Holmes Talks Life After Tom Cruise: Has It Been Rough For Her Since Divorcing Tom?

Katie Holmes talks openly with Matt Lauer on Today about life after Tom Cruise. How rough have things been on the actress since divorcing one of Hollywood’s most famous leading men? Holmes’ split with Cruise was played out in the headlines while having a young child in the middle of it, as well as the controversy over Cruise’s strong Scientology beliefs.

The 35-year-old actress took some time away from acting in movies, but now she’s promoting her upcoming film, The Giver. It’s a film based on a popular book about a young man who learns the power of memory. She plays the boy’s mother and she makes sure people in the community follow a strict set of rules.

In her interview on Today, Katie reveals how she’s doing and how she looks back on life with Tom.

While Tom’s name isn’t specifically mentioned in the interview, Lauer leans on that side of Holmes’ past when he mentions that she was a “very hard-working actress who became uber-famous for other reasons completely.” He asks Katie if she would “trade in some of that fame to go back to that person she was beforehand.”

In summation, Holmes tells Lauer:

“I never really look back. I just approach life — I take it one day at a time. I’m really excited about where I am right now, this movie … I’ve had some really wonderful creative experiences. I am just excited about the future.”

Matt also brought up the interview Katie Holmes gave in Glamour magazine regarding her childhood in Ohio. Holmes says wants to make sure her 8-year-old daughter, Suri, has as normal a childhood as possible in spite of growing up the glaring spotlight. The movie stars says:

“I think, of course, you try your best. I try very hard because I’m very grateful for my upbringing and my parents and siblings. And I try to do what they did for me for my little one. The most important thing for me is letting her know how proud I am and that her accomplishments mean everything… It’s just about her. That’s what I think is the most important.”

When Matt asked her if she looks at her life in “terms of chapters.” She tells him:

“I don’t look at it in terms of chapters. I’m just very grateful. I’m just very excited about this movie… “

It looks like Katie Holmes is going just fine in her life after Tom Cruise. Clearly it’s not rough at all for her as she moves forward as a mother and an actress.
