Blizzard: Diablo III beta is “very close”

Blizzard stated several times that a Diablo III public beta was due out this month, but as of yet we haven’t heard so much as a peep about it from Blizzard. In a statement provided to VG247, however, it looks like it’s still on track.

While they didn’t go as far as to say when it would be launching, Blizzard did say that the company is “very close” to launching the public beta for Diablo III. Considering that Blizzard’s usually keen on using the “soon” and “when it’s done” timetable, this sounds pretty promising.

Blizzard also told VG247 that the friends and family beta is still going on and there is no NDA on the client whatsoever, meaning that we should be expecting a flood of screenshots, videos, impressions, reports and all manner of additional coverage over the next several weeks.

“You might start seeing some new reports about the beta client as we’ve begun limited external testing with employees and their families, and there is no non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for that,” a Blizzard rep told VG247. “We look forward to sharing more info about the beta test in the near future. Stay tuned.”

Unfortunately for eager Diablo fans, Diablo III still doesn’t have a release date. Rumors heavily pointed towards a release later this year, but it’s beginning to look more and more like it’ll end up coming next year. With BlizzCon 2011 coming up next month, hopefully Blizzard will be kind enough to grace us with a release date then.
