Braylon Edwards Fined $50,000 For DUI Charge

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Braylon Edwards will pay $50,000 for violating the NFL policy on substances of abuse.

Braylon was arrested and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) in September 2010, during which time he was playing for the New York Jets. In July 2011 Edwards plead guilty to the DUI charge.

At the time of his DUI arrest Edwards was already serving an inactive probation in Cleveland after he was involved in a tussle outside of a nightclub, that fight involved a friend of LeBron James.

According to team officials Edwards will not face a league suspension. Keeping Edwards actively playing is an important part of the 49ers strategy as his one-year contract is meant to give QB Alex Smith a downfield passing threat which San Francisco was lacking before their Edwards acquisition.

Do you think the league should have given Braylon Edwards a more harsh sentence based on his repeat offenses.
