Toddler Killed By Daycare Provider? ‘Brain Dead’ Girl Dies After Alleged Daycare Abuse

A daycare provider allegedly killed a toddler after she suffered extreme bruising and brain injuries. As the The News Journal reveals, 1 1/2-year-old A’Niah Davila-Torres suffered traumatic injuries last Tuesday. The girl was brought into St. Francis Hospital by the daycare provider and her boyfriend. Police in Wilmington, Delaware are probing the case, now calling it a “death investigation.”

At 11 pm Friday, A’Niah was removed from life support at Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children in Rockland.

On Tuesday, police were called by St. Francis Hospital staff about the girl’s condition, a law required when abuse is highly suspected.

Cpl. Mark Ivey explains that the toddler’s parents are blaming the daycare provider, but says “it’s way too early” to determine who’s responsible for hurting the girl.

Vinnia Davila, 22, is A’Niah’s mother.

“She’s brain-dead,” Davila said on Friday.

A’Niah’s childcare provider hasn’t been identified. Davila says she dropped her and her 2½-year-old son, Aston, off with the woman last Tuesday. The provider reportedly lives in the “city’s Southbridge area. A mother-of-three – who works nights – has cared for them since A’Niah was 6 weeks old.”

“All I can say is that we’re investigating the alleged circumstances of the baby’s injury,” said Wilmington Police Department spokesman Cpl. Jamaine Crawford.

At this point, no defined type of case is revealed. Doctors did tell Davila that her daughter’s injuries were the direct result of “physical abuse.” Davila shares that a bruise on the left side of her face was covered from her forehead all the way to her chin. Another bruise was surrounding her right ear.

Davila says the daycare provider told her that her boyfriend came home and saw A’Niah “slumped on the couch” unresponsive. He supposedly told her they needed to get the girl to the hospital. Furthermore, the woman told Davila that she put A’Niah down for a nap at noon and that her boyfriend found her 20 minutes later. She claimed to have called Davila about the incident, but her phone never rang. Davila found out about the incident after the girl was brought into the hospital.

Morris, Davila’s cousin, says when Aston saw his little sister hooked up to machines in the hospital, he freaked out. Opposing Views quoted Morris:

“As soon as he saw her, he said, ‘They hit her, they hit her.’ We tried to ask him ‘Who?’ but all he would say is ‘They hit her, they hit her.’ He kept saying that. The more they asked ‘Who?’ the more upset he got.”

Authorities quit pressing him for answers at that point.

The daycare provider is unlicensed and not registered with anyone. She has three children, but no other children were in her care except A’Niah and Aston.
