‘Divergent’ News: Theo James, Shailene Woodley Star In 3 Sequels, Release Dates Confirmed

Divergent has a few sequels on the way, and the next three release dates have finally been revealed. According to Breathe Cast, Insurgent, the second film in the series, will hit theaters on March 20, 2015. Shailene Woodley and Theo James have already started filming the movie, reprising their roles as Tris and Four. Many believe that the second film will have wild success, perhaps even outshining the first.

“Much like ‘Divergent’ the sequel is also expected to be a great success at the box office. ‘Divergent’ gained $54 million in its opening week, and about $270 million worldwide. The production team and cast are hoping to replicate the outcome of the first film with this new ‘Insurgent’ film.”

The Divergent movies are based on the popular young adult fiction novels written by Veronica Roth. Much like other series in this genre (Harry Potter, Twilight, The Hunger Games), the movies are just as popular as the books, and the fandom is simply crazy. Also, in order for producers to capitalize on these franchises, the final book in the series has often been split into two when it becomes a film. Allegiant is the final installment of Divergent, and it will be released in two parts as well. The release dates for those films have also been revealed. Allegiant Part 1 will be released on March 18, 2016, and Allegiant Part 2 on March 24, 2017.

New actors have already joined the existing cast, such as Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer, who will play the roles of Evelyn and Johanna, respectively. Also, Shailene Woodley and Theo James shared some upcoming information in regard to their characters moving forward whilst at Comic-Con last week (don’t worry, no spoilers here). For instance, Woodley revealed that she will have a short pixie haircut in Insurgent, according to Hypable. In fact, the actress already chopped her long brunette locks off. She said that wearing a wig just didn’t feel right to her — she really wanted to take this all the way. So that’s just what she did.

According to The Inquisitr, Insurgentbegan filming in Atlanta in May. The cast and crew will wrap some time in the late fall (presumably), and filming for Allegiant will likely start in the spring of 2015 after the Insurgent press tour has been completed.
