Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are on the move, and the Live! with Kelly and Michael host is facing some difficult decisions regarding the change. Ripa's "nightmare move" was one of several topics she talked about with Vanity Fair over the weekend at the Super Saturday sale in the Hamptons.
Ripa's nightmare move, as she describes it, is a big challenge for her because it is tough for her to part ways with things that belonged to her kids when they were little. Kelly says that her husband Mark "likes to throw everything away," while she wants "to save everything for when the kids are older one day." She admits that she has an abundance of items stored away that she doesn't feel ready to toss, but her husband is more anxious to pare down as they pack to move.
Kelly and Mark have sold their luxurious 76 Crosby penthouse, as noted by Curbed. Fans of Live! with Kelly and Michael have heard many stories about the penthouse, as Kelly and Mark spent a great deal of time and money renovating the place over the past few years. The family bought the penthouse in 2005 for $9.5 million and made significant changes over the next couple of years. The home is 6,792 square feet and features five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms.
The Ripa/Consuelos home also has an enormous roof deck that touts a hot tub, fireplace and outdoor shower. The penthouse spent more than a year on the market, and the couple had never publicly lowered the asking price from the original listed price of $24.5 million. However, it is said that the home is now sold with what is being termed "a considerable discount" off that original price tag.
Fans are anxious to hear about where Kelly, Mark and the kids land next, and of course most would imagine that there will still be room for those childhood items Kelly isn't ready to part with quite yet. However, her husband may have a point that clearing out the crib, stroller, little kitchen and Pack 'n Play would make some sense. Kelly and Mark have three children, Michael, 17, Lola, 13, and Joaquin, 11.
Kelly is known for her fun sense of humor, which was on-point during her recent WWHL appearance with buddy Anderson Cooper. It seems as she talked about the move this past weekend, she managed to rely on that sense of humor again regarding the situation. She joked that "Right now, basically, David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris' kids come over and play with everything," so she is seemingly fully aware that it might be time to let go of some of the items.
Chances are that if Kelly is having this tough a time already, she has some additional challenges ahead yet as well. Here's hoping that clearing out some childhood items is the worst that comes up in Ripa's "nightmare move," though fans would imagine she will have a lot more stories to share on the show as the process continues.
