After The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies teaser trailer made its debut at Comic Con panel in San Diego on Saturday, fans that were not present in Hall H finally have the chance to see what Peter Jackson is calling “The Defining Chapter” is all about. It doesn’t disappoint.
Those who have read J.R.R. Tolkien’s novel know what’s coming — and it’s not fun and games. On the contrary, this last episode of the novel is very dark and difficult choices need to be made from all parties involved; Smaug the Dragon (Benedict Cumberbatch) has been awaken from his slumber by Bilbo (Martin Freeman) and the company of dwarves, led by the determined Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage).
Things have been building up in anticipation of the release of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies teaser trailer, with the unveiling of new stills and an amazing poster. Last week, all new images hit the net causing a frenzy with fans, who in many instances have been waiting for years to see this adaptation (ever since The Lord of the Rings trilogy).
The lucky ones who attended The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies panel at Comic- Con had the pleasure of enjoying over half-an-hour of conversation with the host, Stephen Colbert (who did a great job, by the way) and some of the cast. Attending were Peter Jackson, Philippa Boyens, Benedict Cumberbatch, Cate Blanchett, Luke Evans, Lee Pace, Graham McTavish, Elijah Wood, and Andy Serkis.
In this installment, many conflicts need to be resolved and as the fantastic first poster — released by Jackson last week — shows, things will get much, much worse when Smaug unleashes his fury over the residents of Lake-Town. Only Bard the Bowman (Luke Evans) stands in the beast’s way, as he struggles to defend his family and hometown from the evil creature.
Of course, the culmination of the journey undertaken by Thorin and his dwarves in The Hobbit will be The Battle of the Five Armies and if what we see in the teaser trailer is any indication, it promises to be an epic fight to the death. Social media was awash with anticipation at the clip’s release, and talk about what would be included was discussed endlessly.
