Queen Elizabeth’s field hockey photobomb involving a few ladies from the Australian women’s hockey team are absolutely priceless. Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris play with the “Hockeyroos” and they had a very lucky moment at the 2014 Commonwealth Games that they will surely never forget. Some smart thinking on the part of the field hockey players in attendance at the games led to some fabulous shots that are taking social media sites by storm.
As Fox News shares, the team had just won a game against the team from Malaysia when Queen Elizabeth II arrived in an unscheduled appearance. It seems that she was there to watch the match between Wales and England that was slated to begin right after the Australian match.
Many ladies from the Australian team were thrilled to see her and started snapping selfies with the thought that the iconic royal may get caught in the background. As it happens, Jayde and Brooke seem to have snapped the winning shot. Not only did they manage to get a Queen Elizabeth field hockey photobomb, she was looking right at the camera and smiling.
Jayde posted the photo to Twitter, and it is clear she was pretty tickled. She wrote, “Ahhh The Queen photo-bombed our selfie!! #royalty #sheevensmiled #amazing #Glasgow2014 @Hockeyroos @AusConGames.” The photo of course has gone viral, as within hours it had been favorited nearly 6,000 times and retweeted more than 7,000 times.
While Queen Elizabeth II is typically known for being fairly formal, the Hockeyroo ladies managed to catch a different side of her. People notes that there ended up being several Queen Elizabeth field hockey photobomb selfies, and hockey player Ashleigh Nelson managed to snag a similar photo to the one that Jayde and Brooke shared. Again the photobomb target had a big smile on her face, so it seems that she must have been getting quite the kick out of all of the hoopla.
Of course it is not at all uncommon for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to spark a frenzy of activity wherever they go, especially now that Prince George is in the mix as well. Prince William, Kate Middleton, and Prince George are popular figures worldwide, especially when they are all together. It is fun, though, to see that Her Majesty can stir up so much buzz as well. While the Hockeyroos are surely glad they won their match on Thursday, most would imagine that snagging the opportunity to have a Queen Elizabeth field hockey photobomb selfie is a much bigger deal.
