Marvel Studios Reveals Another Mystery Movie For 2018

Marvel studios has announced another untitled movie, to be released in 2018 amid two other previously announced films.

As The Inquisitr has previously related, Marvel studios revealed the planned release dates of their upcoming projects through 2019 late last week. Now, they have added another date to the mix, revealing that the studio plans to release three films each in 2017 and 2018. As MTV points out, the move is a break with Marvel’s longstanding tradition of releasing two films a year, yet it is a concept that Marvel Studios co-president Louis D’Esposito openly contemplated in 2012:

“The temptation is to try a third, and maybe we will, but we’re a small group. It’s very, very difficult. We’re unique as a studio. We’re not just the studio, we produce the films ourselves. It requires a lot of hands on time and effort. You can only stretch it so much before it breaks. So we’re very mindful of that.”

At the time, D’Esposito told MTV that Marvel still wants “to make quality films, and that’s the most important thing for us.”

The latest release date revealed by Marvel studios is May 4th, 2018. Whatever film the studio chooses to plan for that date will be its first of the year, and will join two other projects slated for July 6th and November 2nd. According to Variety, Marvel was able to stake out the May 4th slot after rival Sony abdicated the date, which it had previously scheduled for the release of The Amazing Spider-Man 4.

While fans have speculated about what films could possibly be intended to fill the studio’s planned release dates, Marvel is widely expected to announce at least several of its future cinematic endeavors this week at San Diego Comic-Con. The studio has already revealed a promo poster for Ant-Man, which is slated for July 17th, 2015, joining The Avengers: Age of Ultron to round out the Marvel releases for next year.

Marvel has also revealed that the studio plans to release a third Captain America film on May 6th, 2016, pitting it against rival studio Warner Brothers’ highly anticipated Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Another film, Doctor Strange, is scheduled for July 8th, 2016, and may mark the beginning of a new series for Marvel, which has achieved immense success with its current stable of characters.

Further information is expected to be released at Comic-Con, where Marvel studios will present on July 26th.
