Jessica Chastain and Colin Farrell are “playing with fire” in the new Miss Julie trailer, playing a forbidden couple. John (Farrell) confesses that he’s had a crush on Julie (Chastain) since he was a boy, and it doesn’t help when she seduces him one midsummer night.
Farrell hasn’t had the best luck with movies, having been dubbed one of the worst actors in Hollywood. His appearances in the critically slammed Daredevil, Alexander, and the Total Recall remake haven’t helped his reputation, always seeming to play an over-caffeinated Irishman. We can’t blame the nationality, as he was born in Dublin, but he can’t seem to escape the stereotype. Having won a Best Actor award from the Boston Society of Film in Joel Schumacher’s Tigerland, Colin has proven he can act, and with Miss Julie being based in Ireland, he might just do it again.
Jessica Chastain hasn’t done much of note besides a recurring role in Law & Order: Trial by Jury, and this could be her breakout theatrical role, playing the daughter of an aristocrat.

Julie and John are star-crossed lovers who must keep their affair in the servant’s quarters a secret, despite growing feelings which threaten everything. John is her father’s valet and therefore forbidden to be with her, but after one midsummer celebration leads her to into his arms and more, things heat up.
Based on the screenplay from, and directed by, Liv Ullman, this movie could be one of those unintentionally funny ones which gains a cult following.
Colin Farrell still has the accent he’s become known for, and it actually fits the role he’s been cast in. The Miss Julie trailer tells us that John may be Kathleen’s (Samantha Morton) fiancee, adding to the tension as the truth will probably come out at some point and ruin everything, but not before John suggests to Julie that they run away together.
