Actress Zooey Deschanel, along with Rashida Jones, appears in the new Paul Rudd film Our Idiot Brother.
And while Deschanel is often cast as the quirky love interest for the leading man, in this incarnation, she plays a lesbian involved with Jones’ character. The actress dished on what it was like to lock lips with her female co-star and good friend. Deschanel said:
“It was a little weird at first but I thought it was awesome because she’s cool,” Deschanel said. “I mean, it’s better than kissing a stranger. And she’s really cute.”
In an earlier interview about the scenes, Jones said that making out with Zooey was a step up from her previous roles. She joked:
“I feel like I’ve come a long way from my first job, when I had to get mouth-to-mouth resuscitation from Rip Torn.”
It wasn’t just her female co-stars Deschanel dished on- the star complimented Rudd’s look and performance in the comedy, in which she also stars alongside Elizabeth Banks and Emily Mortimer. She says:
“He’s really cute. He’s really sweet and I think he’s such a sweet person in real life, I think that in this movie his sweetness shines through,” Deschanel said of Rudd. “I think it’s a really great cast and Paul is hilarious and so sweet. I think it’s a role Paul was born to play.”
Deschanel is keeping busy- in addition to the release of Our Idiot Brother, the 31-year-old is starring in the Fox sitcom New Girl. When not acting, she collaborates musically with artist M. Ward in She & Him.
