Prince George Of Cambridge Turns One: Birthday To Be Celebrated With Small Tea Party

It is hard to believe Prince George of Cambridge is turning one today. It seemed as only yesterday his royal parents Prince William and Duchess Kate were anticipating his birth, which seemed to take forever. The special day will be marked privately but will also include public celebrations.

William and Kate are following in the steps set by his mother, the late Princess Diana as it comes to raising the future King of England. Prince George is being treated as a normal child, as much as possible considering his station in life, and as such, his first birthday will be celebrated with a low-key tea party for close family members and friends at the family’s residence in Kensington Palace.

It is expected that his maternal grandparents, Aunt Pippa, and Uncle Michael will attend. However, Prince Charles — the paternal grandfather — and his wife Camilla are touring Scotland and will miss the celebration. Buckingham Palace stated that the Queen’s calendar is open, and she may take a moment to pay a visit to her youngest great-grand child to wish him a happy birthday.

However, we are talking about a future King, so some form of public acknowledgment is expected on his first birthday and the Duke and Duchess are well aware of that. In that spirit, the family decided to visit the “Sensational Butterflies” exhibit at the Natural History Museum in London — an organization which Duchess Kate is patron of — and spent the day allowing Prince George to explore the wonderful insects.

As private as William and Kate have been when it comes to Prince George, they have also been very generous with his public appearances, which have increased as the baby has grown older, perhaps as a way of preparing him for his future duties as heir.

From the first photos taken just a day after his birth outside St. Mary’s hospital in London to the many adorable snaps taken during the family’s visit to Australia and New Zealand in April, the public has been able to take a good look at how their future King is growing up.

As it is, it appears the little Prince is just like any normal one-year-old, and his parents acknowledged he is starting to get into everything and opening doors at home. The proud parents have also shared that their royal child has strong lungs on him, he makes bath-time “quite painful,” and absolutely loves his “best buddy,” Lupo the family dog.

“We would like to take this opportunity on George’s first birthday to thank everyone over the last year.”

The Clarence House Twitter account stated that to mark Prince George’s first birthday, the bells at Westminster Abbey will toll in honor of His Royal Highness. Happy First Birthday, Prince George!
