Sonic CD port announced for practically every platform under the sun

The original three Sonic games have been ported roughly 50 bajillion times so far, give or take a few bajillion, but one classic Sonic platformer that hasn’t seen any love is Sonic CD.

Well, that’s set to change later on this year as Sega announced today that they’ll be porting the relatively lesser known, but arguably better Sonic title from the blue blur’s long-gone golden age. And, apparently, they’re making up for the lack of ports by porting it to pretty much everything.

By everything, I mean that Sega will be bringing Sonic CD to XBLA, PSN, PC, iPhone, iPad, Android devices and Windows Phone 7. A Wii release doesn’t appear to be happening just yet, likely due to the fact that the WiiWare has a file size limit that Sonic CD likely exceeds.

In case you were wondering, this release of Sonic CD will have the original Japanese music, which the majority of fans consider to be above and beyond the American soundtrack.

If you just can’t wait until “later this year” to get your hands on the Sonic CD port on your platform of choice, you can get your chance to try it out at PAX, just a few short days away.
