Sebastian The Miami Hurricanes Mascot Walks Bride Down Aisle [Video]

Did wedding season also become Hurricane season?

In a heartwarming video that went viral, the University of Miami football team mascot walked a bride down the aisle at her recent wedding.

The bride, Jennifer Urs Sullivan, walked arm in arm with the dude who inhabits the costume of Sebastian the ibis, the team’s official mascot, after she descended a flight of stairs by herself.

Urs Sullivan sadly lost her father, so Sebastian substituted, to the delight of the surprised invited guests (see embed below) who gave the duo a standing ovation as they made their way to the altar. The bride is a graduate of the University of Miami and the University of Miami Law School.

In a Facebook posting, Jennifer Urs Sullivan provided some background on the unconventional ceremony:

“When my dad passed away, I dreaded walking down the aisle without him and wasn’t sure how I’d make it through the moment. And yet it ended up being one of the most amazing/memorable moments of the day. I just want to thank all of the amazing people in the athletic department (along with Harry Rothwell of allCanes.com who customized the jersey to include my dad’s nickname on the back) who helped to make this happen. Without you, my day might have been just a little less beautiful. We’re all so lucky to be fans of such a great program, led by the most compassionate of people. Now let’s get these W’s. GO CANES!”

In case you’re wondering, an ibis is a large wading bird usually found in temperate climates. Sebastian the ibis, who usually patrols the sidelines of Hurricanes sporting events, became the school’s official mascot in 1957 and reportedly was named after the San Sebastian building, a campus dormitory.

This is probably one of the more unique wedding entrances that you’ll probably ever see:
